Filaments in 3D photo printing

We use various bright and high quality filaments in 3D photo printing. That came about in our test Prusament PLA Pineaple Yellow for use. Colored prints are possible with a suitable filament. Good results have also been achieved with white PETG and ASA filaments (see products in Shop ). To try out our tips, you can go to, for example https://3dp.rocks/lithophane/ convert your own photos into an STL file. Slicer software such as Cura can also convert photos directly into a printable file. Here are the tips for good 3D photo printing.

Check photo conversion

When converting the photos into a 3D print geometry, we make sure that dark areas are thicker than thin ones. If this is not the case, the photo may be printed as negative.

The right wall thickness

We also recommend that the edge of your photo is as dark as possible so that the wall thickness is constant when printed. We choose the wall thickness for the 3D model so that there are no holes or brittle 3D photos in the print preparation program. In addition, you should select a filling of 100% in the print preparation program to make sure that the 3D printer creates the contrasts of the image.

The right lighting

With the right lighting, either by daylight at the window or one suitable light source your image comes to the fore. LED lamps or LED strips are suitable for this. Depending on the material used and the set wall thickness, we take into account the brightness of the light source.

Conclusion: filaments in 3D photo printing

The right selection of filaments in 3D photo printing is important to achieve good results. But it also depends on the right approach in the entire process. We hope you enjoy experimenting. You can also like in our Shop a product with your photos order, e.g. the 3D photo cube .
